The company’s operations began in 1957, as the Philippine branch of GTE Directories Corporation, the largest publisher of yellow pages directories in the world.

After the 1987 Constitution took effect, wholly foreign-owned corporations could no longer engage in media in the Philippines. Filipinos then bought 70% of GTE/DC’s capital stock, with the remaining 30% owned by GTE (Asia) Ltd.

GTE Directories (Philippines) Corporation was incorporated on June 20, 1989 to assume the business of the Philippine Branch of GTE Directories. The company was organized primarily to publish telephone directories for the Philippine Long Distance Company (PLDT), the country’s largest telephone company, and the Pilipino Telephone Company.

In August 1993, GTE ceased to be a stockholder of DPC. From then, the Company evolved into a wholly Filipino-owned firm.

To date, DPC is the leading seller of Yellow Pages Advertisements. It is the official publisher of most telephone companies’ directories, namely: PLDT, Piltel, Angeles City Telephone System/Datelcom, PLDT-Maranao Telephone Co. Inc., Cruztelco, General Telephone System Inc., Bayantel, Sotelco, Misortel, Digitel, PT&T and Globelines.

DPC is also the founder and a charter member of the Asian Directory Publishers Association, Inc. (ADPAI), a non-profit association composed of 20 countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
